Donald Trump wins New York with a landslide
Today is Wednesday 20th April 2016 and we are briefly covering the New York Primary Presidential Republican results.
With 95 delegates available and 3 results still to come in, Donald Trump has already won 89 delegates and John Kasich 3 and Ted Kruz zero. Donald Trump received 60.5% of the vote, Kasich 25.1% and Kruz 14.5%. Whilst everyone knew that Trump would win this State easily, such a high margin can only be described as a landslide.
So what does this mean? Well, in order to win the Republican nomination without a contested convention, a candidate requires 1237 delegate votes. Trump now has 845, Kruz 559 and Kasich 147.
There are 734 seats still available, and Trump needs to win 392 of them or 53.5%. Kruz requires 678 or just over 92% which is impossible. Whilst it is unlikely that Trump will reach the 1237 (though not impossible) he is going to come very close, and it is now almost certain that he will be the Republican nominee, especially as he is leading by a wide margin in a number of remaining States.
