That’s why Volkswagen calls its model the Golf Sportsvan, BMW has the 2 Series Active Tourer, and Mercedes claims the B Class is a Sports Tourer. The Mercedes-Benz B Class debuted in 2005, and was based on the second generation A Class. The main difference was in height, which resulted in more space inside. Even today the A Class and the B Class have the same footprint, but the B Class is 12 cm taller. A taller car is easier to get into, especially if you’re older. And even if you’re still young, but you have to drive your parents or grandparents, they will appreciate how easy it is to sit inside, and that they neither need to climb inside or fall on the seat. There’s also more headroom, which is good news for taller people, and more boot space. Cars like the Mercedes-Benz B Class should sell you hot cakes, but I don’t see many of them. Except for some taxis in Warsaw, I saw one driven by a couple of German pensioners. So what’s wrong with this segment? It’s overshadowed by SUVs and crossovers.
