Clashes outside prison where former head of secret police during Pinochet's regime was detained Video

Home
(29 Sep 2013) Nine former officials of the Chilean military dictatorship convicted of crimes against humanity were taken on Sunday from a luxurious jail exclusively for human rights offenders to one with less benefits on the outskirts of Santiago.
President Sebastian Pinera announced earlier this week that the Cordillera prison for officials convicted of crimes against humanity, which had a pool and tennis courts, would be closed and its inmates transferred to Punta Peuco, another, less luxurious special jail for human rights offenders.
On Saturday night, hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside the jail to protest the special treatment given to dictatorship-era military officials who were convicted of crimes that included tortures, disappearances and murders.
Images of Sunday night show people holding the photos of those who were killed or disappeared during the dictatorship.
Others threw rocks and eggs at the police.
The inmates being transported were accompanied by medical personnel, as some of them were suffering from health problems.
The Cordillera prison, located on an army base, offered the officers jailed for killings, torture and other abuses during General Augusto Pinochet's 1973-90 dictatorship far better conditions than Chile's normal penitentiaries.
The inmates lived in small cabins with private bathrooms, had hot showers and got lots of natural light.
Pinera said his government decided to close Cordillera taking into account equality before law as well as the security of the prison's 10 inmates.
Nine will now serve time at Punta Peuco, another special jail for human rights offenders.
On Saturday a tenth inmate, the country's former spy chief committed suicide shortly before he was to be transferred from the luxury prison.
Authorities say retired General Odladier Mena shot himself in the head on Saturday in a stairwell outside his home in Santiago.
Mena had taken advantage of prison benefits that allowed him to visit his home.

About the Site 🌐

This site provides links to random videos hosted at YouTube, with the emphasis on random. πŸŽ₯

Origins of the Idea 🌱

The original idea for this site stemmed from the need to benchmark the popularity of a video against the general population of YouTube videos. 🧠

Challenges Faced πŸ€”

Obtaining a large sample of videos was crucial for accurate ranking, but YouTube lacks a direct method to gather random video IDs.

Even searching for random strings on YouTube doesn't yield truly random results, complicating the process further. πŸ”

Creating Truly Random Links πŸ› οΈ

The YouTube API offers additional functions enabling the discovery of more random videos. Through inventive techniques and a touch of space-time manipulation, we've achieved a process yielding nearly 100% random links to YouTube videos.

About YouTube πŸ“Ί

YouTube, an American video-sharing website based in San Bruno, California, offers a diverse range of user-generated and corporate media content. 🌟

Content and Users 🎡

Users can upload, view, rate, share, and comment on videos, with content spanning video clips, music videos, live streams, and more.

While most content is uploaded by individuals, media corporations like CBS and the BBC also contribute. Unregistered users can watch videos, while registered users enjoy additional privileges such as uploading unlimited videos and adding comments.

Monetization and Impact πŸ€‘

YouTube and creators earn revenue through Google AdSense, with most videos free to view. Premium channels and subscription services like YouTube Music and YouTube Premium offer ad-free streaming.

As of February 2017, over 400 hours of content were uploaded to YouTube every minute, with the site ranking as the second-most popular globally. By May 2019, this figure exceeded 500 hours per minute. πŸ“ˆ
