Suspension
The biggest complaint I have about the BMW 4 Series is the suspension. In fact, if I had to pick one thing on this list that I most hate about the BMW 4 Series, it would be the suspension. The car truly feels like it has the most unrefined suspension for a modern car. Yes, I'm sure supercars have suspension that is more firm than the BMW 428i, but the BMW 4 Series suspension is some of the most jarring I've experienced in a daily driver.
The suspension if the BMW 4 Series is the biggest disappointment about the car, and it makes the entire experience of owning a BMW 428i unpleasant. Comfort Mode in the BMW 4 Series exists, but I'm not too convinced that it does anything for the suspension. The ride quality is worse than the competition from Mercedes or Audi. The suspension on the 4 Series BMW is great for sporty driving, but don't plan to be pleased with it on a daily basis.
Connected Drive/iDrive - BMW Infotainment
The iDrive or Connected Drive system in the new BMW models is a huge disappointment in the BMW 4 Series. The entire infotainment system in the BMW iDrive is a distraction for the driver, and while ConnectedDrive is a step up from the previous iDrive system, it's still far from refined.
Synthesized Turbo Flutter & Engine Noise
The BMW 4 Series has an incredible inline 4 engine with a great amount of power all throughout the power band, but for some reason, BMW decided that with the 428i they would add in a system that would pump in a synthetic engine noise and turbo flutter while driving - even in Eco Pro mode.
Maintenance Costs
I fully understand that the BMW 4 Series is not a cheap little car, but it's also the third cheapest BMW model that you can buy today. It makes no sense that you end up paying the same labor charges for the 4 Series that you would a 7 Series BMW.
Seatbelt Position/Mechanism
BMW decided with the 4 Series to create an electronic mechanism that pulls the seatbelt towards the driver and passenger when they enter and sit down in the car. Unfortunately, this cheap piece of plastic feels like it is ready to break any second, and it rarely does its purpose anyway.
Gearbox
The gearbox in the BMW 428i is fantastic for sporty driving. The gear changes in the BMW 4 Series are smooth and perfect, but the gearbox can't seem to make it's mind up when you're driving in Comfort or Eco Pro mode in your BMW.
Storage
I understand it's a 2 door BMW Sports car, but the 4 Series BMW has absolutely no available storage for a phone or small items that you want quick access to. It shocks me that the BMW 4 Series is built for daily use; however, there are no places to keep any of your items if you're using the cup holders.
Overall, the BMW 428i 4 Series from 2014 is actually a great car; however, it has some quirks that make it difficult for daily use. If you're planning to buy the BMW 4 Series for a weekend car, go for it. If you're asking if you should buy a BMW 4 Series for daily use, you really should consider the 7 Things I hate about the BMW 4 Series.
