Dieser interessante und seltene Dell Desktop PC von 1996 wurde auf Ebay Kleinanzeigen angeboten. Es ist ein Dell Optiplex GL 5100 mit einem Intel Pentium 100, 16GB EDO-RAM und einer 1GB Western Digital Festplatte. Soweit erkennbar ist er in unverändertem Originalzustand.

Das Massenspeichermedium dieser Zeit war die Diskette. Zum Kopieren benutze man VGA-Copy mit einer grafischen Oberfläche. Mit VGACopy kann man auch heute noch prima Disketten und Laufwerke auf Funktion prüfen. Während die meisten Diskettenlaufwerke noch gut funktionieren, sind viele 3,5"-Disketten nach 25 Jahren zunehmend defekt.

Dell wäre nicht Dell, wenn alles kompatibel und genormt wäre. Um in diesen Optiplex eine ISA oder PCI-Karte einzubauen, braucht man noch eine Riser-Karte oder Riser-Board, welches leider nicht bei dem PC dabei war. Es gibt zwei Karten, einmal für linke und einmal für rechte Kartenausrichtung. Leider braucht es hier die Karte für die andere Ausrichtung.
