It plays well and sounds good, however, it seems this run of guitars is plagued with small little defects which is a shame. As with all limited edition artist explorers though, despite the small flaws, these always become collector's items and usually inflate back to new + prices within a few years after they have sold out.
These are now officially out of production, but at the time of writing this there are a few demo models left at Sweetwater!
Lzzy Hale is best known as the front woman of the band Halestorm. Her new Dark Explorer was first introduced for the 2018 Gibson Line Up and is continuing into the 2019 offerings as well. This explorer shares many similarities to her first white explorer which was released for 2014. In fact, the only thing different between the two is the color and fretboard material
When asked about why so little changed, she responded with "If it isn't broken - don't fix it. The initial design inspired her to play so she stuck with it. Additional comments about her being a believer the way a guitar looks affects the way she plays were also mentioned. With her dark explorer, it inspires writing and playing darker sounding material and feels more like a weapons James Hetfield would bring to stage to lay down the riffs
It features a Jet Black finish with black/white binding along with gold hardware to really give this guitar a stellar look. The body and neck are made out of mahogany whereas the 22fret 12" radiused fretboard is made of rich lite.
