During the mid 70's I joined the Kibbutz Sarid's Ulpan volunteer program, which allowed me to study Hebrew, work on a farm, travel the country from top to bottom, meet lots of adventurous people, play a better game of chess and the only cost was getting there. Equipped with an old 8mm flickering film camera with no sound or auto exposure or focus I jumped on a plane. Landed in New York, Iceland, Europe, Athens Grease then for a final hop to Ben-Grunion airport. Spent my first night at the Savoy Hotel in Tel Aviv, which was later bombed by terrorist.
MAJOR culture shock. Soldier teenagers male and females carrying rifles and machine guns hitch hiking to all points Israel. Cheeseburgers NOWHERE! but with something called a Falafel served everywhere. This video reflects a small fraction of what I experienced both on the Kibbutz and in my travels throughout this most amazing historic country.
