About this video:
One of the first steps to getting your personal brand or new business online is to buy your web domain. There are a lot of different options so we wanted to walk you through a few of them and show you why we recommend purchasing your domain name from Namecheap.

Before we buy a domain the first thing to check to see if the domain and social media accounts are available for the name you want.

We recommend using Namechk (https://namechk.com/). There are a few and they all work fairly similarly.

Let's look at 3 different options:
GoDaddy - probably the largest domain name website, maybe you’ve seen their super bowl ads. GoDaddy is ok, but it’s not the cheapest option when it comes to buying your domain. A lot of times they have offers running for the first year, but the price jumps up for the 2nd year and beyond. When you go to buy the domain you’ll see they try to upsell you on a bunch of different things that you probably don’t need. The one thing you might want is privacy protection. GoDaddy charges $9.99 per year for this. As you’ll see with the next 2 options, it’s included in their price. If you don’t get privacy protection, the phone, email, and address you use to purchase the domain will be publicly available online.
Squarespace - we love Squarespace. All of our websites + most of our clients’ websites are build with Squarespace. If you are interested in learning how to build your website with Squarespace click here [ ] to sign up for our free Squarespace course. Squarespace has beautiful mobile-friendly websites that are really easy for anyone to create and update (no design or programming knowledge necessary). If you build your website with Squarespace and pay for an annual plan, you’ll get a domain free for the first year. This is great if you’re just getting started and you want to save a little money today, but the renewals for Squarespace are $20 per year. The WhoisGuard is included with Squarespace so this option is already cheaper than GoDaddy domain plus their privacy protection.

If you planning on having this domain for years to come, it’s probably cheaper to go with our next provider.

Namecheap - Like their name implies - cheap domain names. This is where we recommend buying your domain. WhoisGuard is always free and the renewal prices are less expensive than both GoDaddy and Squarespace.

Now you have a domain for your business, the next 2 steps would be 1) get your website up and running. 2) Set up a business email for your new domain. You can create something like [email protected] [email protected] or [email protected]. We use G Suite from Google for all of our business emails.

About the Site 🌐

This site provides links to random videos hosted at YouTube, with the emphasis on random. 🎥

Origins of the Idea 🌱

The original idea for this site stemmed from the need to benchmark the popularity of a video against the general population of YouTube videos. 🧠

Challenges Faced 🤔

Obtaining a large sample of videos was crucial for accurate ranking, but YouTube lacks a direct method to gather random video IDs.

Even searching for random strings on YouTube doesn't yield truly random results, complicating the process further. 🔍

Creating Truly Random Links 🛠️

The YouTube API offers additional functions enabling the discovery of more random videos. Through inventive techniques and a touch of space-time manipulation, we've achieved a process yielding nearly 100% random links to YouTube videos.

About YouTube 📺

YouTube, an American video-sharing website based in San Bruno, California, offers a diverse range of user-generated and corporate media content. 🌟

Content and Users 🎵

Users can upload, view, rate, share, and comment on videos, with content spanning video clips, music videos, live streams, and more.

While most content is uploaded by individuals, media corporations like CBS and the BBC also contribute. Unregistered users can watch videos, while registered users enjoy additional privileges such as uploading unlimited videos and adding comments.

Monetization and Impact 🤑

YouTube and creators earn revenue through Google AdSense, with most videos free to view. Premium channels and subscription services like YouTube Music and YouTube Premium offer ad-free streaming.

As of February 2017, over 400 hours of content were uploaded to YouTube every minute, with the site ranking as the second-most popular globally. By May 2019, this figure exceeded 500 hours per minute. 📈
