Missed Part 1? here it is
https://youtu.be/23QAUPDXH6MOk so part 2 of the experiment is done and the results are in!
The mysterious clay media is called Seramis, you can check it out here
http://seramis.com/seramis-fuer-zimmerpflanzen.htmlWe have tested the water retention now and it seems this stuff holds in much more water than bark and leca beads, I find it very similar to sphagnum moss in this respect. However the drying is layered in the final days when everything starts to become pretty dry.
Conclusions: If you have a warm to hot, dry and drafty environment I think these guys are a life saver. They retain so much water that the evaporation of the whole quantity will take longer than leca or bark. If your environment is the other way around then NO, this thing will be atrocious for you. Pretty much if Sphagnum moss doesn't work for you, this will not either.
The layered drying can be a good thing and a bad thing. You will not be able to tell if the media is dry or not if you have a solid colored pot. Only way to know is to insert a finger or bamboo stick and see if the lower layers are dry until you figure out how it works in your environment. Clay pots, baskets and ventilated pots will help with this.
However I doubt you will have an algae carpet on the top, like it usually happens with sphagnum moss. The top pieces do dry out so they will not promote algae or excessive molds and that is good.
There are more concerns with this and the main thing is salt buildup, but alas we need to test this baby out on orchids and that is what I shall do next. Overall though, I am excited about it! :D
Links for purchasing this in Europe:
http://shop.orchitop.de/Tongranulat-25lhttp://www.amazon.co.uk/Mars-GmbH-INACTIVE-4008429081019-Granules/dp/B002RWK1QWhttps://www.hydroculture.co.uk/seramis-clay-granulesAlso available in the store Bauhaus, if you have this in your country :)
For USA I cannot find links, but you can give them an email and ask if they have distributors. Ofcourse you can also gather a common order and split the transport fee as well, you can also purchase from Amazon UK. Maybe I can talk to these guys and see if we can arrange something if this proves to be the holy grail of orchid media for hot climates :) the future is ahead!

http://bit.ly/Mg3dc0About the Site π
This site provides links to random videos hosted at YouTube, with the emphasis on random. π₯
Origins of the Idea π±
The original idea for this site stemmed from the need to benchmark the popularity of a video against the general population of YouTube videos. π§
Challenges Faced π€
Obtaining a large sample of videos was crucial for accurate ranking, but YouTube lacks a direct method to gather random video IDs.
Even searching for random strings on YouTube doesn't yield truly random results, complicating the process further. π
Creating Truly Random Links π οΈ
The YouTube API offers additional functions enabling the discovery of more random videos. Through inventive techniques and a touch of space-time manipulation, we've achieved a process yielding nearly 100% random links to YouTube videos.
About YouTube πΊ
YouTube, an American video-sharing website based in San Bruno, California, offers a diverse range of user-generated and corporate media content. π
Content and Users π΅
Users can upload, view, rate, share, and comment on videos, with content spanning video clips, music videos, live streams, and more.
While most content is uploaded by individuals, media corporations like CBS and the BBC also contribute. Unregistered users can watch videos, while registered users enjoy additional privileges such as uploading unlimited videos and adding comments.
Monetization and Impact π€
YouTube and creators earn revenue through Google AdSense, with most videos free to view. Premium channels and subscription services like YouTube Music and YouTube Premium offer ad-free streaming.
As of February 2017, over 400 hours of content were uploaded to YouTube every minute, with the site ranking as the second-most popular globally. By May 2019, this figure exceeded 500 hours per minute. π
