The Big Fish Sculpture in Belfast - 360 Degree Video Video

Home
Overlooking the Lagan is the belfast ceramic sculpture Bigfish. The Big Fish is a very well known Belfast Sculpture that would be a must see stop off point for tourists as they walk around the city.

The Big Fish is sometimes referred to as "the Salmon of Knowledge" and it is created by Belfast born John Kindness which was made in 1999 and placed in Donegall Quay in Belfast. It is made of ceramic tiles which have a unique design or print on each one. It is a very popular stop off point for tourists or locals in Belfast and it overlooks the River Lagan.

The Big Fish is a 10 meter statue that is installed on Donegall Quay, near the Lagan lookout and the Custom House. The Big Fish will always be found standing among the long list of places to visit in Belfast and those attractions which you are supposed to write down in your long list - and it is worth the visit! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftp371hNo0g).

According to Belfast City Council, every single picture or part of the sculpture tells a story about Belfast, both from the present and the past. The material used in bringing this sculpture to life is from Tudor Times to the present day newspaper headlines and some contributions from Belfast school children. There are also some pictures building up this sculpture and some of these primary pictures are provided by Ulster Museum, while local schools/day centers located along the line of the River Farset provided the drawings for the fish.

This famous sculpture is believed to be made as some kind of celebration for the regeneration of River Lagan. This is also considered a significant place since it is the place of confluence between River Farset and River Lagan. There is always something to know about Belfast through the different places and attractions which you will manage to visit while being there.

The Big Fish or as it is sometimes referred to, The Salmon of Knowledge, is really filled with lots of information about Belfast's past and present and this name is actually applicable because standing in front of this sculpture will give you the chance to go through different stories and know lots of things that Belfast, Northern Ireland, has gone through before - it might even take you sometime if you got so much interested about the whole thing and started reading what is found there; it is not just a sculpture that you visit, take a couple of pictures and then go back home.

Taking a picture by the Big Fish is of course the first thing that would come to your mind but you should also come closer and inspect this sculpture and try to read the stories that build up the history of Belfast - it would turn out to be an interesting experience at the end, trust us! :-)

When it comes to River Lagan, there are some places which are located close to it and which we have also been to and visited before to bring you different experiences and things which you could do in Belfast. Those which we have been to are Clement Wilson Park which might not be from the biggest parks in Belfast but one that is old and is also prepared to suit the disabled (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2D0kr3Tb60o) and there is also Lagan Valley Regional Park which is another park option for the park lovers out there (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qXidd6SG0c).

We have also mentioned that The Big Fish Sculpture is located close to the Custom House and if you are around this area you will definitely spot it somewhere and this also bring some other destinations and attractions which we could mention. Near the Custom House you will find the famous Albert Clock (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ib92aMIoxhk) which is one place that stands on the list of places to visit while being in Northern Ireland.

Another option is Lisburn city which is located on River Lagan and which houses different attractions that tourists could visit and see - it is located southwest of Belfast city centre, so not far away from the capital city of the country (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6o4ZXaQGTg).

Th Big Fish - or The Salmon of Knowledge - is one of our favorite sculptures in the city and we love the idea that it was created in, bringing the history of the city to the visitors. We definitely recommend this place for you if you are coming to visit Belfast and Northern Ireland anytime soon!

About the Site 🌐

This site provides links to random videos hosted at YouTube, with the emphasis on random. πŸŽ₯

Origins of the Idea 🌱

The original idea for this site stemmed from the need to benchmark the popularity of a video against the general population of YouTube videos. 🧠

Challenges Faced πŸ€”

Obtaining a large sample of videos was crucial for accurate ranking, but YouTube lacks a direct method to gather random video IDs.

Even searching for random strings on YouTube doesn't yield truly random results, complicating the process further. πŸ”

Creating Truly Random Links πŸ› οΈ

The YouTube API offers additional functions enabling the discovery of more random videos. Through inventive techniques and a touch of space-time manipulation, we've achieved a process yielding nearly 100% random links to YouTube videos.

About YouTube πŸ“Ί
