Makarska is the center of the Makarska Riviera, a popular holiday destination in Croatia. It is located under the mountain Biokovo, about 60 km from Split, in the Split-Dalmatia County.
Makarska central beach is a middle size pebble beach full of pine trees that provide natural shade. It is suitable for families with children and in the summer usually gets crowded. Along the beach there is a lively promenade lined with restaurants and hotels.
Makarska has a beautiful marina and the dramatic background of Biokovo mountain creates a lovely scenery. The best views you can get from St. Peter's park.
The old town is dominated by Kacic square that features St. Mark's church and the statue of Andrija Kačić Miošić - a monk, a philosopher, a teacher as well as a poet. There are also many bars and restaurants in the area.
Outside the town you will find more pebble and secluded beaches like Biloševac, Cvitačka, and Ramova Beach.
