Dharma does not mean Religion Video

Quite often in my readings, the word “Dharma” would come up and I would sometimes see it translated as ‘religion’. As I learned more and more, I realized that this definition couldn’t farther from the truth.

So what does any of this mean? What is Dharma?

The word “dharma” has multiple meanings depending on the context in which it is used. If we look up in the Monier-Williams’ Sanskrit-English Dictionary, it lists several, including: conduct, duty, right, justice, virtue, morality.

None of these is entirely accurate and none conveys the full force of the term in Sanskrit. There is no equivalent English word that accurately describes what Dharma is.
