This video covers the procedure to obtain a monochromatic light. The monochromatic light is a light beam consisting of only a single wavelength. The laser is an example of a highly monochromatic radiation. Similarly, there are different optical elements in use to isolate radiations in the EMR spectrum. The construction and working of these optical elements are discussed in this video.
Starting with the basic optical filters, this animation discusses the underlying principles in interference filters. The phenomenon of interference also helps in designing the diffraction gratings made of a transparent material like glass. The phenomenon of diffraction causes the light beam to bend slightly when it passes through a small slit. The other element covered in the video is a prism monochromator. The prism disperses light according to its wavelength. Using this principle one can cause different wavelengths of radiation to travel different paths and block the light path of unwanted wavelengths. Watch the video to understand better.
