Skąd silnik BMW w Toyocie? Kiedy zaczęto rozważać 5. generację Supry, potencjalni klienci powiedzieli, że chętnie takie auto kupią, ale tylko z 6-cylindrowym silnikiem. Bo takimi silnikami zawsze napędzana była Supra. Tymczasem na początku drugiej dekady 21. wieku BMW i Toyota ogłosiły współpracę m.in. nad nadędem wodorowym, akumulatorami, lekkimi konstrukcjami oraz samochodem sportowym. I tak oto Toyota Supra dorobiła się nie tylko silnika z BMW.
Oficjalnie samochody mają niemal identyczne osiągi. Toyota jest minimalnie szybsza w sprincie od zera do setki - 4,3 sekundy zamiast 4,5. Toyota jest od BMW o 40 kilogramów lżejsza, ale to nadal blisko 1600 kilogramów. Różnice zaczynają być odczuwalne w zaprogramowanych doznaniach. To tak naprawdę ten sam samochód w innej budzie, więc trzeba było Suprę jakoś od Z4 odróżnić na poziomie wrażeń z jazdy.
