Hi everyone, my name is Julius Solaris and I’m the editor of Event Manager Blog, the first blog for event planners. Today we’re going to be talking about five event tech trends for 2017.

1. Drone-Streaming

This year, with live streaming booming, and Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube jumping on live video, the use of drones by event planners to streamline a much more engaging experience and get unique point of views of what’s happening at your event, is really one of the most exciting trends to watch this year.

You can do that on a Do It Yourself basis by buying one of the consumer drones with 4K cameras on it, you can follow your speakers around, follow your performers at your event… or you can obviously upscale and get a full production team.

2. Virtual Reality

Or what I like to call mixed reality, the interaction between offline and online environments. Probably it’s too soon to have full functional virtual environments where we can interact with other attendees, but the rise of the 360° live video is definitely one to watch with platforms offering the ability to watch sporting events as one of the attendees, with a very immersive type of experience.

3. The Sharing Economy

Nothing new if you’ve used Uber or Airbnb, you know what we’re talking about. We’re actually talking about very specific event planning platforms that help to save costs, connect attendees and in general get rid of the middle man, to have a more affordable event experience. Whether you’re sourcing a venue, whether you’re looking at splitting costs. Definitely the sharing economy is now mature enough to make an impact this year in the event industry.

4. Real-Time Data

All the data that we can get from sensors, apps and all these cool and interesting new toys that we can use for our events. We have a new element to count on, artificial intelligence and machine learning. We can really get a new set of actions that we can take during our event to actually make it better, whether it’s experience-related, marketing-related, feedback or security-related. There’s much more that we can do with data and technology is becoming smart and giving us solutions as well.

5. Touchable Tech

Probably we’re moving away from wearables where we haven’t really seen an impact that big in the event industry. But we’re really looking at ways to touch and interact with technology and have more tools that we can actually experience with our five senses. The technology that is able to give us that type of experiences is really going to make an impact.

About the Site 🌐

This site provides links to random videos hosted at YouTube, with the emphasis on random. 🎥

Origins of the Idea 🌱

The original idea for this site stemmed from the need to benchmark the popularity of a video against the general population of YouTube videos. 🧠

Challenges Faced 🤔

Obtaining a large sample of videos was crucial for accurate ranking, but YouTube lacks a direct method to gather random video IDs.

Even searching for random strings on YouTube doesn't yield truly random results, complicating the process further. 🔍

Creating Truly Random Links 🛠️

The YouTube API offers additional functions enabling the discovery of more random videos. Through inventive techniques and a touch of space-time manipulation, we've achieved a process yielding nearly 100% random links to YouTube videos.

About YouTube 📺

YouTube, an American video-sharing website based in San Bruno, California, offers a diverse range of user-generated and corporate media content. 🌟

Content and Users 🎵

Users can upload, view, rate, share, and comment on videos, with content spanning video clips, music videos, live streams, and more.

While most content is uploaded by individuals, media corporations like CBS and the BBC also contribute. Unregistered users can watch videos, while registered users enjoy additional privileges such as uploading unlimited videos and adding comments.

Monetization and Impact 🤑

YouTube and creators earn revenue through Google AdSense, with most videos free to view. Premium channels and subscription services like YouTube Music and YouTube Premium offer ad-free streaming.

As of February 2017, over 400 hours of content were uploaded to YouTube every minute, with the site ranking as the second-most popular globally. By May 2019, this figure exceeded 500 hours per minute. 📈
