I designed an interlocking Grappling Hook in Adobe Illustration and cut it out of 1/8" aluminum on my X-Carve CNC Router. This was my first attempt cutting metal on a CNC and it works great if you take shallow passes and use lots of lube. The bit is an 1/8" double fluted straight bit and it's linked below. Once it was cut out, I filed off the tabs and rounded the edges slightly. I brushed the metal with 600 grit sandpaper for no other reason than looks. I assembled the hook and pressed the tabs of the inside piece together to lock it in place.
It should be fun to have hundreds of people tell me that won't be strong enough blah blah blah... and I'll direct them to the end of the video showing it is more than strong enough. All jokes aside, I made this as a shelf piece. I like it. It feels great in the hand and is going to do exactly what I want/need it to do.
If you'd like to make your own, the file is available on my website (linked above) for a nominal fee. It helps to keep the wheels turning in my shop and I appreciate the support. This could also be made out of 1/8" wood/plastic, or you could scale it up make it out of 1/4" material.
