In 2013, State Representative Shemia Fagan sponsored House Bill 2001 that would tax the income our Oregon National Guard troops earn while they're deployed in dangerous combat zones like Afghanistan.
Katherine's son Eric is currently deployed in Afghanistan with the Oregon National Guard. Shemia's bill would have cost the average soldier more that $3,600 in new income taxes during deployment. Shemia testified that it was "unconscionable that we would continue to waste millions of dollars on ineffective and misused tax expenditures."
The only thing that's unconscionable is Shemia's bill to tax our military men and women while they are deployed into combat zones and their families are left to struggle emotionally and financially.
