In this introduction to intonation in American English, I explain how to start working on your intonation. Learn how we use word and sentence stress and change your pitch (the rise and fall of your voice) to communicate emotions and attitude in English. When you become more sensitive to tone of voice, you will communicate more clearly and sound more like a native English speaker.
I encourage you to get started with intonation by focusing your attention on changing your tone on short words, phrases, and expressions. Pay attention to the American tone you hear in common phrases and start imitating it yourself! I include some examples of intonation patterns in American English in this intonation playlist:

On this channel, youโll learn what to say, how to say it, and why it matters. If you want to improve your accent and communication skills in American English, youโre in the right place!
I work with motivated non-native English speakers who want to sound more natural in English so that they can achieve their personal and professional goals.
I know how important it is to be able to connect with other people in a language that isnโt our first. I speak Spanish fluently and have spent years living in Peru, Chile, and Argentina. I also speak Portuguese conversationally, but I understand much more than I can speak (sound familiar?).

About the Site ๐
This site provides links to random videos hosted at YouTube, with the emphasis on random. ๐ฅ
Origins of the Idea ๐ฑ
The original idea for this site stemmed from the need to benchmark the popularity of a video against the general population of YouTube videos. ๐ง
Challenges Faced ๐ค
Obtaining a large sample of videos was crucial for accurate ranking, but YouTube lacks a direct method to gather random video IDs.
Even searching for random strings on YouTube doesn't yield truly random results, complicating the process further. ๐
Creating Truly Random Links ๐ ๏ธ
The YouTube API offers additional functions enabling the discovery of more random videos. Through inventive techniques and a touch of space-time manipulation, we've achieved a process yielding nearly 100% random links to YouTube videos.
About YouTube ๐บ
YouTube, an American video-sharing website based in San Bruno, California, offers a diverse range of user-generated and corporate media content. ๐
Content and Users ๐ต
Users can upload, view, rate, share, and comment on videos, with content spanning video clips, music videos, live streams, and more.
While most content is uploaded by individuals, media corporations like CBS and the BBC also contribute. Unregistered users can watch videos, while registered users enjoy additional privileges such as uploading unlimited videos and adding comments.
Monetization and Impact ๐ค
YouTube and creators earn revenue through Google AdSense, with most videos free to view. Premium channels and subscription services like YouTube Music and YouTube Premium offer ad-free streaming.
As of February 2017, over 400 hours of content were uploaded to YouTube every minute, with the site ranking as the second-most popular globally. By May 2019, this figure exceeded 500 hours per minute. ๐
