Hypothetical Trading Systems

Now just to be clear; just because its hypothetical doesn't mean that its a bad trading system but you have to be more cautious with a hypothetical system more than what you have to be with a real system.
- Hindsight results - it is very easy to come up with a system that works in hindsight when you know what is going to happen.
- 'Real Time' misleading terminology
- Financial limitations - can you stomach the drawdown? If a system has been losing for three months would you stick with it? Can you deal with brutal drawdowns?
- Not tested under real conditions - we have slippage on stops, we have slippage on fills, sometimes we don't even get fills, delays..etc
- Possible rigging of results
- Trading costs ignored
If you find a hypothetical trading system - be very careful about buying it or getting involved - it is relatively easy to find a system that works in hindsights. You want someone who is trading it with real money and using sensible risk management.
