Have you ever wondered what the difference between Epoxy and Polyester resin is ? and more importantly which resin you should select for with use case.

We have created a video which compares the seven key differences between the two products to help you choose. Both Epoxy and Polyester resin will work for almost all boat repairs, you will see better results which will last longer if you select the right resin for the right repair. You will also remove the risk of creating other issues by selecting the wrong resin. For example selecting epoxy resin for job that require water proofing will protect your sailing boat against fiberglass osmosis.

In the last half of the video we look at two uses cases for epoxy resin, repairing the loose stanchions on our Mumm 36, before water proofing the bottom of the hull with an epoxy top coat to prevent the onset of fiberglass osmosis.

We choose epoxy over polyester for both cases, first for the bonding strength and secondly for the water proofing properties.

Hopefully you are enjoying the Bottom Up Boats Mumm 36 rebuild project where we restore a 20 year old racing yacht. If you are don't forget to leave a like and to subscribe to ensure that you get notified when the latest updates are released.
