My old Toshiba T3100e/40 portable computer still lives. Made around 1986 this has an amazing 9.6 inch orange gas plasma display. Actually much easier on the eye than the poor contrast grey LCD screens of the early 90's laptops that followed.
Cost new; around $6899, Average 1986 car cost; $9281, Average US salary 1986; $22339.
Built like a tank, this also features aftermarket Windows 3.1 opened via a command line prompt of course, aftermarket serial mouse - as it was not originally sold with a mouse, Word 2.0, proper clickety-clack keyboard, some games including breakout and asteroids and finally the starfield screensaver.
Notably, programs such as Word open and close MUCH faster than on my modern laptop.
Happy days.
