Atka, a 14 1/2 year old American Eskimo Dog who has:
Degenerative Myelopathy (DM)
Idiopathic Epilepsy
Spinal Stroke
Early Kidney Failure
Shows what can happen sometimes as his DM progresses, and his neurons misfire. The legs can start to kick on their own, which was interfering with Atka’s ability to walk since it was happening every few seconds.
Neurons misfiring is actually what a seizure is, except those neuron misfires happen in the brain and are more generalized. Unfortunately, a few hours after this episode of leg spasms and kicking, Atka wound up having a grand mal seizure. Like all his other grand mal seizures, this one also progressed his DM instantly, dramatically, and permanently.
DM stinks.
Epilepsy stinks.
