Violin I, Violin II, Violin III (Viola TC), Viola, Cello, String Bass, Piano

Based on a Newfoundland folk song, Passerine refers to "the swallow" found in a lyric of lost love. Carl Strommen gives us a beautiful setting that contains a solo string quartet to begin the work, which contrasts nicely with the entrance of the full ensemble.
