A few weeks ago I received a Phalaenopsis that was suffering from crown rot. After treating the infection we have the first positive result!

The crown of this orchid is irreversibly destroyed, but this doesn't mean the orchid will not go on. Mnopodial orchids can produce baby plantlets called keikis, which are exact copies of their parents and will ensure the survival of the orchid.
My Phalaenopsis is producing a basal keiki, meaning one situated on the axis. In about a year or so it should have leaves and roots of its own, so at some point it will be separated. For now though, the mother orchid will provide nutrients :)
