Salah satu temuan dari TPF bentukan polri, Novel Baswedan dianggap menyalahgunakan kewenangannya sebagai penyidik KPK di enam kasus yang ditanganinya. Terkait temuan itu, Novel membantahnya. “Saya lebih suka kita tidak membicarakan motif yang tercampur opini. Sudah ada bukti-bukti CCTV, ada sidik jari, dan lain-lainnya. Mengapa itu tidak diperiksa dan didalami lagi untuk mengejar pelaku lapangan,” kata Novel.
Novel menyoroti bagaimana kelalaian prosedur yang dilakukan oleh tim kepolisian, yakni saat penyidik mengintimidasi saksi-saksi. ”Ada saksi yang memotret orang yang dicurigai mengamati rumah saya. Tapi oleh penyidik malah diintimidasi, bukannya malah diapresiasi. Kan seharusnya tidak begitu,” ujarnya. Mengenai tim teknis yang dikasih waktu tiga bulan oleh presiden, Novel kurang yakin akan tim itu.
Soal isu-isu yang dihembuskan ke KPK terkait adanya polisi India dan polisi Taliban, Novel mengatakan dirinya tersinggung. “Itu sama saja menghina adik-adik saya penyidik KPK yang memang masih aktif di kepolisian. Polisi India itu kan asosiasinya lambat dan korup,” ujarnya. Sementara soal tudingan Novel radikal, dirinya punya persepsi lain soal radikal. “Kalau radikalnya itu maksudnya berani mengatakan dan menjalankan yang benar, saya radikal,” jelasnya.
