UFO Sighting by Pilot Kenneth Arnold in 1947 - FindingUFO Video

On June 24, 1947, a private pilot named Kenneth Arnold had an aerial encounter that defied all explanation. As he passed by the Cascade mountains on a flight through Washington state, Arnold spotted a group of large, delta-shaped objects flying around the mountain peaks in a reverse wedge formation.

He reported that each of the objects seemed to bounce through the air like "a saucer skipping across water," a comparison that inspired the media term "flying saucer." It wasn't the first anomalous aerial sighting in human history -- it wasn't even the first in 1947 -- but it was the first to make national news, and it introduced the world to the concept of the UFO.
