Bluefire Phenomenon at Ijen Crater, Banyuwangi, Indonesia
One of the only two places you can see the bluefire phenomenon in the world.........
In order to see the bluefire, you can depart the city of Banyuwangi by car to the foot of the volcano at Paltuding. The car ride would take about 1 hour plus. Starting from Paltuding, you can start your hiking for about 3 km. It took me about 2 hours to get to the top of the mountain.
After you reach the top, you still have to go down into the crater which would take you about 30 minutes or so depending on your condition and how fast you can climb down the rocky and often steep contour.
If you are lucky, the wind will blow the mist to the other side of where you are standing. If you are not lucky, the wind would blow towards you and you would feel dizzy smelling the smell of sulphur and would not be able to see the blue fire at all. In that case, you have to pray and hope that the wind would change its direction to the other side.
My picture of the blufire could be found at my blog:
