You've got your 'per trade' risk, your 'daily risk' and your 'limit risk'. This should be a key part of your trading plan. You could say; 'I'm going to risk X pounds on my trades (which can be variable depending on the strategy you're employing) - say GBP250. My daily risk could be say, GBP1000 and my limit risk (say, max weekly risk) GBP3000. This is a broad trading plan approach - we aren't focusing too much on profit and losses but we still need some parameters in place. That is very simple yet a precise way to limit your risk. It is defining how you are going to use your capital. Ok now we have our foundations; we have got our what, when you're going to trade, how (your trading strategy) and you've got your risk paramaters in place.
Now to the checklist to go thru. Do you have a system whereby you look at past trades? What kind of breaks are you going to put in - this is particularly important if you're day trading. How much time are you going to spend reviewing your trades and improving your strategies? That should take a substantial amount of your time.
