The Colony: Labor Day Weekend (Aug. 31 - Sept. 3, 2007) Video

Home
Labor Day 2007 was one that became bittersweet. Not only was it the last time the Pan American Medical Association (PAMA) hosted their annual conference at The Colony Beach & Tennis Resort, it would also be one of THE LAST TIMES The Colony would even stay open. Just a few years later, the original Colony owners shut down hotel's doors, ending an era that was truly a gem for the city of Sarasota.

While the PAMA already chose a new conference location right before the 2010 closing, it would never be the same for those that grew up here, building such strong and memorable friendships. For that reason, this footage is extra special, showing the last of us living up the weekend in a place we truly called paradise.

And yet, even in a foreshadowing of events, we knew our last time being in The Colony would the last time for ANYONE to truly know this amazing resort, a surreal world of beauty along the beaches of Longboat Key, FL.

This video is divided in Five Parts.
Part 1 - David discussing his experiences in the Navy
Part 2 - Impromptu reggae jam
Part 3 - Walking along St. Armand's Circle
Part 4 - Pre-game drinking
Part 5 - Official drinking game to close the night

Dedicated to the Colony Kids who be kiddin' around since day one.

About the Site 🌐

This site provides links to random videos hosted at YouTube, with the emphasis on random. πŸŽ₯

Origins of the Idea 🌱

The original idea for this site stemmed from the need to benchmark the popularity of a video against the general population of YouTube videos. 🧠

Challenges Faced πŸ€”

Obtaining a large sample of videos was crucial for accurate ranking, but YouTube lacks a direct method to gather random video IDs.

Even searching for random strings on YouTube doesn't yield truly random results, complicating the process further. πŸ”

Creating Truly Random Links πŸ› οΈ

The YouTube API offers additional functions enabling the discovery of more random videos. Through inventive techniques and a touch of space-time manipulation, we've achieved a process yielding nearly 100% random links to YouTube videos.

About YouTube πŸ“Ί

YouTube, an American video-sharing website based in San Bruno, California, offers a diverse range of user-generated and corporate media content. 🌟

Content and Users 🎡

Users can upload, view, rate, share, and comment on videos, with content spanning video clips, music videos, live streams, and more.

While most content is uploaded by individuals, media corporations like CBS and the BBC also contribute. Unregistered users can watch videos, while registered users enjoy additional privileges such as uploading unlimited videos and adding comments.

Monetization and Impact πŸ€‘

YouTube and creators earn revenue through Google AdSense, with most videos free to view. Premium channels and subscription services like YouTube Music and YouTube Premium offer ad-free streaming.

As of February 2017, over 400 hours of content were uploaded to YouTube every minute, with the site ranking as the second-most popular globally. By May 2019, this figure exceeded 500 hours per minute. πŸ“ˆ
