So this webinar is a Question and Answer webinar on English pronunciation. Everyday I receive countless emails from students and sometimes I get English accent questions from my students that I love to incorporate in my American English webinar lessons! So THANK YOU for asking English pronunciation questions!

The first English pronunciation question is from my Pronunciation Pro student, Sunny. She has a list of English words that she wants to learn how to pronounce. I categorize these English words for her to help her understand how to pronounce English words with similar pronunciations. Learn with my English students on how to pronounce L in a word and especially N or M ending sounds. Many Asian students have a hard time pronouncing ending sounds. For example, when Asian students say the English word “onliNe” they tend to forget to pronounce the ending sound, which in this case is the /n/ sound.

Next I teach you how to pronounce a long A and long E sound coupled with an American R sound. I also teach you how to pronounce subtle sounds, like the G sound in the English word “preGnancy”.

Another Pronunciation Pro student, Charlie, asks me an American English pronunciation question. Charlie wanted to learn how to pronounce the American R sound. Learn with Charlie on how to pronounce the American R sound! I had Charlie do some simple American R exercises to find out which pronunciation problems he had. Overall, his American R pronunciation was great!

Another English pronunciation student, Albert, asked if there are any specific suggestions and pronunciation tips to English speakers with Chinese as their native language. The answer to that English pronunciation question is yes! :) Native Chinese students tend to generally struggle with their pronunciations of L, R, and N sounds, as well as linking and connecting words and sentences, and they also need to learn how to pronounce the correct English rhythm. Listen to my answer to Albert’s question to learn more about what Chinese-speakers need to focus on when speaking in English.

The next English pronunciation question comes from Li, who asks how to pronounce the voiceless S sound and the voiceless Z sound, and then how to know which one to use. Great question. Unfortunately, there is not a strong rule on when to use the voiceless S sound and when to use the voiceless Z sound. However, most of the time, when an S follows a vowel, the S will most likely have a Z pronunciation. This is particularly hard for my Spanish-speaking students. Listen to and learn from my Spanish-speaking Pronunciation Pro students Desiree and Alejandro as they pronounce the Z sound in words with the letter S. They both do a great job!

Next I have a student, Chattu, who asks me how to link and pause in English. This is a great question! The KEY to learning the correct rhythm of English is to learn how to link and connect between words and sentences. In my Pronunciation Pro course I teach my students a lot about linking and pausing in lesson 7.

About the Site 🌐

This site provides links to random videos hosted at YouTube, with the emphasis on random. 🎥

Origins of the Idea 🌱

The original idea for this site stemmed from the need to benchmark the popularity of a video against the general population of YouTube videos. 🧠

Challenges Faced 🤔

Obtaining a large sample of videos was crucial for accurate ranking, but YouTube lacks a direct method to gather random video IDs.

Even searching for random strings on YouTube doesn't yield truly random results, complicating the process further. 🔍

Creating Truly Random Links 🛠️

The YouTube API offers additional functions enabling the discovery of more random videos. Through inventive techniques and a touch of space-time manipulation, we've achieved a process yielding nearly 100% random links to YouTube videos.

About YouTube 📺

YouTube, an American video-sharing website based in San Bruno, California, offers a diverse range of user-generated and corporate media content. 🌟

Content and Users 🎵

Users can upload, view, rate, share, and comment on videos, with content spanning video clips, music videos, live streams, and more.

While most content is uploaded by individuals, media corporations like CBS and the BBC also contribute. Unregistered users can watch videos, while registered users enjoy additional privileges such as uploading unlimited videos and adding comments.

Monetization and Impact 🤑

YouTube and creators earn revenue through Google AdSense, with most videos free to view. Premium channels and subscription services like YouTube Music and YouTube Premium offer ad-free streaming.

As of February 2017, over 400 hours of content were uploaded to YouTube every minute, with the site ranking as the second-most popular globally. By May 2019, this figure exceeded 500 hours per minute. 📈
