Granular Synthesis in Absynth Video

Keeping with our theme of departing from realism we explore granular synthesis. Granular requires a sample but by the time you run that sample through the granular engine the original sample is hardly recognizable. In this lesson we use the granular oscillator inside of Absynth and then use a specialty granular based effect (The Aetherizer) to really break up and spread apart our signal. Granular takes a sample and breaks it up into small chunks (grains) which can they be combined and manipulated in a variety of ways. Granular isn’t always the most practical solution for leads or basses but it’s great for textures, drones, and special FX.
