La paz entre Lucis y el imperio de Niflheim estaba cerca gracias a la firma de una tregua y la boda del príncipe de Lucis, Noctis, con la dama Lunafreya de Tenebrae, provincia del Imperio, sellarían la tan ansiada paz.
Así partió Noctis de la capital del reino, acompañado de sus fieles amigos, Gladiolus, Prompto e Ignis y ajeno al drama que se desencadenaría durante la ceremonia de la tregua.
El Imperio traicionará a Lucis y se apoderó del Cristal, símbolo de Lucis. La paz que su reino había trabajado por edificar se derrumbó en una sola noche. Todo lo que le quedaba a Noctis eran sus tres amigos y el coche favorito de su padre, Regalia.
