These five brief videos introduce ideas that informed their new book, Notice and Note (http://www.heinemann.com/products/E04693.aspx), in which authors Beers and Probst introduce 6 "signposts" that alert readers to significant moments in a work of literature and encourage students to read closely. Learning first to spot these signposts and then to question them, enables readers to explore the text, any text, finding evidence to support their interpretations. In short, these close reading strategies will help your students to notice and note. The authors explain that in the book, "Part I, The Questions We Pondered, shares our thinking about some critical topics of today. Because our thinking about these topics mostly took the form of questions we asked of one another, we decided to present this section as a series of questions and our answers. Our answers, tentative as they are, may help you understand the thinking that guided our development of the Notice and Note Signposts.
