Some famous Cantonese opera singers were trained to do so with an acquired pharyngeal voice, crucial for forming the throat Dan Tian (Dantian), exemplified by M/s 任劍輝 (Yum Gim-fai) and Mr.新馬師曾 (Sun Ma-see-jung). At the end of this movie I have sung a small part of M/s 任劍輝's song,觀柳還琴 . I am just an amateur and my singing is nowhere near the professional level. For instant the special singing style of the Cantonese opera that needs a special pharyngeal mode are hard to describe.
The Dantian is a must for many advanced Tai Chi and Qigong techniques because it acts as an important part of the power formation as described by the ancient Tai Chi classical treatise, 《太極拳解 Tàijí quán jiě》by Yǔxiāng Wǔ (1812-1880) 武禹襄, "More power can be stored up like a bow being drawn and released like a heavily loaded arrow蓄勁如張弓，發勁如放箭." The innovative self push-hand with the Tai Chi moves demonstration shows how I have combined self-pushing hand with some Tai Chi moves and a learned form of breathing as a form of Integrative Mind Body Training. The throat Dantian and its importance in forming the Tai Chi CranioSacral Postural Reflex has seldom been taught. A sample song sung with the Dantian and the throat Dantian has been included. Singing Chinese opera with the Dantian is good for the acquisition of breathing with the Dantian. It is good for the throat Dantian too. Many deceased Tai Chi masters sang the traditional opera well. A pharyngeal voice is required for this special style of singing. This is why Cantonese opera singing can help cultivate good breathing for meditation, tai chi and qi gong.
The Dantian has a deep cultural root in the rich Chinese cultural heritage. I have to go into more depth and details when I explain the Dantian and the Mingmen concepts to people who have very little knowledge of the Chinese culture.
