Dua tahun lalu penyidik senior KPK Novel Baswedan diserang dua orang tak dikenal. Akibat serangan itu, mata Novel mengalami kerusakan hingga 95 persen. Hingga saat ini, pelaku penyerangan belum juga ditemukan meskipun tim pencari fakta sudah dibentuk oleh Kapolri. Menurut Novel dirinya tidak yakin dengan tim bentukan Kapolri karena tidak menindaklanjuti rekomendasi dari Komnas HAM.
Rekomendasi Komnas HAM menemukan ada kelalaian prosedur dalam penanganan kasusnya. “Tim ini seperti mengolok-olok saya karena dari temuan tim ini justru tidak menemukan pelaku dan menyalahkan saya,” kata Novel. Novel membantah dirinya dibilang tidak kooperatif. “Bukan saya yang tidak menemui. Saya dirawat di Singapura. Di luar negeri ada aturan sendiri soal memeriksa orang. Ada aturan negara tersebut. Nah saya tidak mengerti apakah tim menempuh prosedur itu,” tegas Novel.
Soal dirinya tidak mau menyebut nama-nama jenderal, Novel menghindari tim ini terjebak soal motif dari pelakunya. Bagi Novel, untuk menemukan aktor intelektual dari serangan itu harus dirunut dari pelaku di lapangan. Novel juga mengatakan permintaannya agar teror terhadap penyidik lain diungkap bukanlah permintaan yang sulit karena terkait dengan teror terhadap dirinya.
