A super short stop-motion about the loss of childhood innocence. By Samuel Lewis (Australia)

Love short film and animation? Then check out these 20 new shorts from emerging filmmakers and animators from around the world including the UK, Spain, Ukraine, Russia, Sweden, Morocco, USA and more!

The films make up this year's shortlist for Watershed's microfilm competition, DepicT! - which gives the best new filmmakers out there a chance to win cash prizes, career development opportunities, and loads of exposure via our partners in tv and film and at the internationally renowned Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival (which takes place in Bristol each in September).

Whilst the jury will decide who wins four out of five of the DepicT! awards, it's up to you to decide who wins the Shooting People Audience Award. Watch all 20 films at http://www.depict.org/watch-films/ - cast your vote by 18:00 BST on Sat 19 Sept.

The DepicT! Competition:
Each year Watershed challenges filmmakers from around the globe to create an original, innovative short film of 90 seconds or less. The DepicT! competition is a unique opportunity for emerging talent to get the exposure for their film and the support they need to take their career to the next level as all shortlisted films get screened in the cinema at Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival (Bristol, UK), the UKโ€™s leading short form and animation festival and annual meeting place for new, emerging and established filmmakers and industry professionals.

About the Site ๐ŸŒ

This site provides links to random videos hosted at YouTube, with the emphasis on random. ๐ŸŽฅ

Origins of the Idea ๐ŸŒฑ

The original idea for this site stemmed from the need to benchmark the popularity of a video against the general population of YouTube videos. ๐Ÿง

Challenges Faced ๐Ÿค”

Obtaining a large sample of videos was crucial for accurate ranking, but YouTube lacks a direct method to gather random video IDs.

Even searching for random strings on YouTube doesn't yield truly random results, complicating the process further. ๐Ÿ”

Creating Truly Random Links ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

The YouTube API offers additional functions enabling the discovery of more random videos. Through inventive techniques and a touch of space-time manipulation, we've achieved a process yielding nearly 100% random links to YouTube videos.

About YouTube ๐Ÿ“บ

YouTube, an American video-sharing website based in San Bruno, California, offers a diverse range of user-generated and corporate media content. ๐ŸŒŸ

Content and Users ๐ŸŽต

Users can upload, view, rate, share, and comment on videos, with content spanning video clips, music videos, live streams, and more.

While most content is uploaded by individuals, media corporations like CBS and the BBC also contribute. Unregistered users can watch videos, while registered users enjoy additional privileges such as uploading unlimited videos and adding comments.

Monetization and Impact ๐Ÿค‘

YouTube and creators earn revenue through Google AdSense, with most videos free to view. Premium channels and subscription services like YouTube Music and YouTube Premium offer ad-free streaming.

As of February 2017, over 400 hours of content were uploaded to YouTube every minute, with the site ranking as the second-most popular globally. By May 2019, this figure exceeded 500 hours per minute. ๐Ÿ“ˆ
