"Well, the fuel beds are very receptive. They're very dry. The heat has been an issue. It's been over a hundred several of the operational periods during the day. The relative humidity has been very low. The winds have been erratic, and very strong at points during the fire which there were some some events during the fire where the fire was spotting out in front of itself, (where flaming fuel particles are carried naturally by the wind) up to a mile and a half which is a pretty significant event on a wildland fire."

"We've been using bulldozers in areas where those are acceptable to use and are strategically advantageous. There are certain areas where aerial fire suppression tactics are employed. There are certain points where we can actually go direct and put hand crews and hand lines in and create wet line defensible space around structures, provide structure protection. So, all these different aspects will all come together in the fire fight in itself."

"As far as this summer has been we've already lost four firemen or firefighters, and that's that's a terrible tragedy and for a fire to be this large, it's really amazing that we've had two minor injuries."

STORYLINE:
California fire officials say the largest blaze ever recorded in the state is now more than half contained.
But the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection says Thursday it will still take several weeks to fully surround the massive wildfire in Northern California because it's burning in steep terrain that's hard to reach.
Cal Fire says the blaze that has charred 475 square miles (1,230 square kilometers) of brush and timber is 51 percent contained.
In Southern California, a forest fire that's prompted evacuations in canyon and foothill neighborhoods south of Los Angeles continues to grow with minimal containment.
