Venerable Pomnyun is a Zen master of Korean Buddhism. He is renowned for lively teaching style and social activism. This is three part series on one of the most fundamental aspects of Buddhist teaching- the dependently originating nature of the world. In it, he expounds on the meaning of dependent origination and its relationship with non-duality, karma, cause/effect and empty nature of the world. Further, the twelve links within the dependent origination are elaborated. These links are heart of Buddhist psychology that explains, step by step how we create inner knots of attachments and delusion, which are the main causes of our suffering.
In Part 1, Ven. explains the meaning of dependent arising and how it is related to the term, 'emptiness' in Buddhism. In Part 2 and 3, he goes through the each step in the twelve links-their precise definitions and relationships. His example of smoking habit is humorous yet very effective at explaining how the whole process unfolds.
