Christmas in Budapest Video

CHRISTMAS IN BUDAPEST - I was lucky to be in Budapest at Christmastime and experience the way the city lights up and celebrates. There are Christmas markets all around the city and you can’t help but bump into them as you’re strolling around. In this video, I’ll talk about the biggest and best two markets and where to go ice skating on what I hear is the biggest outdoor skating rink in Europe.

The Budapest Christmas Fair (Budapest Karácsonyi Vásár) at Vörösmarty Square is full of stalls selling delicious foods, drinks, and handmade gifts. It had one of the most memorable booths I saw anywhere in Europe, which was also the most fragrant. They were selling garlands made of dried fruits and spices and I didn’t see one person walk by without stopping to take in the Christmassy scents. There was also a small stage where musicians played and I especially enjoyed seeing Hungarian dancers teaching children the moves.

I had two extra noteworthy experiences trying foods here. I found a stall selling marzipan that looked like little jewels - each one made with such care. I had a hard time deciding which to try but finally went with my inner child and settled on bubblegum with rainbow sprinkles. Those few bites were truly unforgettable. I also tried Flódni, traditional Jewish-Hungarian plum and poppy seed cake. It’s made with lots of different layers and was fresh and delectable. Of course at a Christmas market you have to have something hot to drink to ward off the chill so Marc and I tried hot sour cherry beer and black currant rum punch.

The other market not to miss in Budapest is at St. Stephen’s Basilica. It’s smaller and very charming in front of the grand church. My favourite part is the light show that plays along with music all through the night. A countdown clock lets you know when the next show is about to begin and it’s nice to see people stop, turn around, and enjoy the shared experience of gazing up at the basilica. This market also has a small skating rink centred around the brightly-lit Christmas tree.

If you want to go ice skating in Budapest, however, you really must go to the big one in City Park. It’s in front of Vajdahunyad Castle, which makes for a majestic background to glide around the ice.

Christmas is a wonderful time to visit Budapest and would make an excellent weekend trip. I hope you enjoyed seeing my highlights. What was your favourite part of Christmas in Budapest I showed?

MY VLOGMAS 2017 SERIES
This December I’m doing Vlogmas on my channel! Vlogmas is usually where you daily vlog each day of December leading up to Christmas. I’m doing my own version where I’ll upload new videos three times per week on my regular schedule (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) and each ‘episode’ will be Christmas themed from my travels in Europe! I’ll be exploring Christmas markets - and trying all the special foods - in 6 different countries and learning about unique and sometimes crazy-sounding Christmas traditions. I absolutely love this time of year. I’m looking forward to experiencing all the different ways people celebrate and sharing it with you.

About the Site 🌐

This site provides links to random videos hosted at YouTube, with the emphasis on random. 🎥

Origins of the Idea 🌱

The original idea for this site stemmed from the need to benchmark the popularity of a video against the general population of YouTube videos. 🧠

Challenges Faced 🤔

Obtaining a large sample of videos was crucial for accurate ranking, but YouTube lacks a direct method to gather random video IDs.

Even searching for random strings on YouTube doesn't yield truly random results, complicating the process further. 🔍

Creating Truly Random Links 🛠️

The YouTube API offers additional functions enabling the discovery of more random videos. Through inventive techniques and a touch of space-time manipulation, we've achieved a process yielding nearly 100% random links to YouTube videos.

About YouTube 📺

YouTube, an American video-sharing website based in San Bruno, California, offers a diverse range of user-generated and corporate media content. 🌟

Content and Users 🎵

Users can upload, view, rate, share, and comment on videos, with content spanning video clips, music videos, live streams, and more.

While most content is uploaded by individuals, media corporations like CBS and the BBC also contribute. Unregistered users can watch videos, while registered users enjoy additional privileges such as uploading unlimited videos and adding comments.

Monetization and Impact 🤑

YouTube and creators earn revenue through Google AdSense, with most videos free to view. Premium channels and subscription services like YouTube Music and YouTube Premium offer ad-free streaming.

As of February 2017, over 400 hours of content were uploaded to YouTube every minute, with the site ranking as the second-most popular globally. By May 2019, this figure exceeded 500 hours per minute. 📈
