For the local Irish people, this street might be considered more of a shopping place which they head to but when it comes to the tourists and those coming to visit Belfast, it turns to be more of a touristic destination for the old buildings that it houses since they are standing there for a long period of time. One of the top old buildings found in this street is of the Grand Central Hotel which is the most prestigious in the city since it opened back in 1893. This hotel welcomed many important and illustrious guests throughout its history, such as King Leopold III of Belgium, Sir Winston Churchill, The Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
There are different places to shop at in Belfast and maybe the most famous of them is Victoria Square, but there is also CastleCourt which comes right after it. CastleCourt is located in the Royal Avenue which is one of Belfast's main commercial centres. The top end of Royal Avenue is named John Street while the other end is called Hercules Street - for those who will be visiting the place and want to know more about their directions.
This old street appeared in a movie back in 1901 and it appeared as a street bustling with shoppers, trams, workers, carts, bicycles and wagons. This street also had its part during the Troubles since it was targeted by the Provisional IRA due to its economic importance as a commercial zone and the presence of the British Army military barracks. Now this street is one of the most important in Belfast and is considered a commercial centre that brings lots of international brands to this city and makes it one of the energetic and always filled with people. You might not be coming to visit this street for shopping during your tour in Belfast, but you will surely be visiting the street to check this old place that has been standing there for years.
