Today is Tuesday 22nd November 2016 and we are briefly commenting on President-elect Trumps decision not to pursue a further investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails, in order to “help her heal".
Mr Trump had threatened during his campaign to "jail" Mrs Clinton, and at rallies his supporters often chanted: "Lock her up!"
Senior Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway told MSNBC that;
"when the President-elect... tells you before he's even inaugurated he doesn't wish to pursue these charges, it sends a very strong message - tone and content….. And I think Hillary Clinton still has to face the fact that a majority of Americans don't find her to be honest or trustworthy, but if Donald Trump can help her heal, then perhaps that's a good thing."
Whilst this decision shows a degree of mercy, it has to be said that during his campaign, Donald Trump called her:
“crooked Hillary - The most corrupt politician ever, whose email scandal would be as big - if not bigger - than Watergate”.
In addition, during one of the debates, Trump threatened to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate her email scandal. But now that has disappeared.
So did Donald Trump really believe in the accusations he levied or was it just campaign rhetoric to gain votes? Alternatively, is she guilty and he is just showing a compassionate side?
Interestingly, the right-wing Breitbart News Network, one of Trump’s most loyal supporters, swiftly denounced the climb-down as a "broken promise".
When Rudy Giuliani was not nominated as Attorney General, we felt this might happen, as we certainly got the impression that he was far more hawkish on Hillary Clinton than Donald Trump ever was.
