There's a dividend stock that everyone seems to love right now. Across dividend growth investing blogs and YouTube comments, it seems like investors view this iconic brand as a value, a buying opportunity. Well, this dividend growth investor has decided to never buy this company. Check out my fundamental analysis of GE, and how their financial data brings a multitude of red flags, from a dividend investing standpoint.
Today's video is a hands-on analysis, and will show you exactly how I personally analyze stocks. With a portfolio of 36 stocks, I like to perform rigorous fundamental analysis to separate the winners from the losers.
Today's video specifically covers:
* Top-level fundamental screens that I like to perform on Yahoo! Finance including: price per share, PE ratio, earnings per share, market capitalization (also known as market cap), debt, and more.
* Why price per share trends (over the very long term) matter, even though I invest for dividends and passive income (I'm not in it for capital appreciation). Capital appreciation is a byproduct of value creation. If a stock has gone nowhere for a long period of time (as GE has experienced), that's often a red flag.
* How GE recently cut their dividend in half. In fact, I have a "one strike and you are out" policy with dividend cuts. Dividend cuts are never ok in my book.
* How I look at revenue trends over the long term. GE's declining revenue is not necessarily a deal breaker for me. However, this red flag combined with many others (especially lower operating margins) definitely poses a big concern.
* Learn all about operating margins and cash flow, and why these are especially important in a situation of declining revenue.
* Learn about GE Capital (GE's bank) and how its poor performance is indicative of a weak overall company. In fact, GE Capital is one of the largest red flags with this company.
* Explore my big takeaways and insights including: (1) thoughts on industrial conglomerates, (2) why great brand is not enough, (3) the need for diversification, (4) why it's important to trust one's own analysis (and not others), (5) and how things can change and dividend investors always need to be prepared.
Today's video is a long one. If you are serious about learning dividend growth investing, I believe it will be well worth your while. Worth noting: I'm not to trying to insult nor put down anyone who invests in General Electric. In fact, I wish you all the success in the world. Today's video is meant to start a debate, and unfortunately GE is just not for me. That said, there are many different strategies out there, and it could be that a "buy low, sell high" investor does quite well with GE.
Mentioned in today's video, my personal finance journey has included a bunch of mistakes. Learn from my top five financial mistakes in this video:

About the Site π
This site provides links to random videos hosted at YouTube, with the emphasis on random. π₯
Origins of the Idea π±
The original idea for this site stemmed from the need to benchmark the popularity of a video against the general population of YouTube videos. π§
Challenges Faced π€
Obtaining a large sample of videos was crucial for accurate ranking, but YouTube lacks a direct method to gather random video IDs.
Even searching for random strings on YouTube doesn't yield truly random results, complicating the process further. π
Creating Truly Random Links π οΈ
The YouTube API offers additional functions enabling the discovery of more random videos. Through inventive techniques and a touch of space-time manipulation, we've achieved a process yielding nearly 100% random links to YouTube videos.
About YouTube πΊ
YouTube, an American video-sharing website based in San Bruno, California, offers a diverse range of user-generated and corporate media content. π
Content and Users π΅
Users can upload, view, rate, share, and comment on videos, with content spanning video clips, music videos, live streams, and more.
While most content is uploaded by individuals, media corporations like CBS and the BBC also contribute. Unregistered users can watch videos, while registered users enjoy additional privileges such as uploading unlimited videos and adding comments.
Monetization and Impact π€
YouTube and creators earn revenue through Google AdSense, with most videos free to view. Premium channels and subscription services like YouTube Music and YouTube Premium offer ad-free streaming.
As of February 2017, over 400 hours of content were uploaded to YouTube every minute, with the site ranking as the second-most popular globally. By May 2019, this figure exceeded 500 hours per minute. π
