Making the 9 GEAR Hand spinner fidget toy was a real pleasure, with 52 individual moving parts it was quite a complex fidget machine to make...but so much fun. it came out much nicer and quite differently than i planned.
this Fidget toy was borne out of a casual question by a client: "would it be possible to make the 3 gear with a 9 gear configuration". i was sure it wouldn't work. but after hand sketching the mechanism and computer modeling the gears, it became obvious that is was possible...very possible. and so the client commissioned me to begin work and development on this project simply known as "the 9 gear"
there were many obstacles to over come and after the 6th or 7th design iteration, a eureka moment had emerged and this video is the result of the final version.
after the development of the 9 gear it has spawned other interesting gear fidget hand spinners that you will see in the coming weeks.
this is the sixth hand spinner i have made and i am becoming a big fan of these things. at first they seem quite silly and useless but the desire to spin them is real and once you have one you really like it is difficult to put down.
