The Dark Hedges - The King's Road in Game of Thrones - NI Video

Home
A lot of scenes from Games of thrones were filmed in Northern Ireland and the Dark Hedges stand in for the Kings Road - so if you're interested in GOT - check out the real location of Season 2, Episode 1's "On the King's Road" to see how the Dark Hedges in Ballymoney appear.

When we fall in love with a character or a whole movie or series, we always want to include it in everything, from the products we buy to the places we tend to visit and those who tend to become loyal fans for a thing, might start tracking it down, like those who are visiting the locations in Northern Ireland where Game of Thrones was filmed.

Game of Thrones is known to be an American fantasy drama television series that was filmed in different countries across the world and from them, Northern Ireland is on the list. Since we happen to be Irish people :-) we decided to head out for those locations and bring them to our followers and help them in two different ways: first, give them the chance to experience visiting the location, and second is giving them tips and directions if needed for a specific place (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWSVzAgt-us).

One of these different locations in Northern Ireland where Game of Thrones was filmed in is the Dark Hedges which is located in county Antrim. The Dark Hedges is actually an avenue of beech trees along Bregagh Road and it forms an atmospheric tunnel where cars pass through (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yht4ieepr10).

It is believed that the Dark Hedges became famous and added as one of the touristic attractions in Northern Ireland after its appearance in Game of Thrones. Even though this might be considered true, we have to refer to the history of the place and the legend it carries which should be also making it famous as well.

This place, the Dark Hedges, actually dates back to 1775 when James Stuart built a new house with the entrance planted with more than 150 beech trees in order to create an imposing approach - and we have to say that he succeeded at doing that.

Being that old, there is a history behind the place - or we could say a legend carried about it. According to the old legend, this place is visited by a ghost who is called the Grey Lady and who travels through the place and moves from one tree to the other, this lady is believed to be either the spirit of James Stuart's daughter or one of the house's maids who died in a mysterious way back then, or else a spirit from an abandoned graveyard beneath the field and is joined with other ones during Halloween - as much as these stories might sound like untrue ones, it makes one interested to visit the place and even check whether they will appear during the visit or not.

The bad news regarding this beautiful place - which we could guarantee the amazing time you will get while enjoying those trees - is that due to the traffic caused by the vehicles of the people who come to visit and check it, some researches done say that these trees will not live for more than 20 years and that is why the Department of Infrastructure is thinking about closing the place in order to reduce the crowd. In the past years, already the remained trees are 90 out of the 150 which were planted back in time, either from the bad weathers or else from the slogans and other signs that people tend to write and carve on the trees.

We have managed to visit other different locations related to Game of Thrones which are in Northern Ireland as well; we have been to Toome Canal in Toomebridge, county Antrim (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1KqyF3tj7Y), we visited Lough Neagh which was the smoking sea in the series (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COUaQZJ8-kI), Portstewart Strand was also another location added to the list of places we have been to (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yD73BZpr0hg), we went to the Cushendun Caves (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7dNEReGod4), we got the chance to visit Leitrim Lodge (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMZGR_OtKx4), and we also went to Larrybane beside Carrick a Rede Rope Bridge (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RXOUknZ5N4).

The most interesting thing about these different visits is that some of the doors that appeared in the movie are found in hotels, spas, pubs, and restaurants in Northern Ireland, so we also managed to visit and see some of them in real - it was actually an interesting experience.

Some of the best locations around Ireland / Northern Ireland and further afield. A travel blog/vlog of the hidden treasures that are on our doorstep.

About the Site 🌐

This site provides links to random videos hosted at YouTube, with the emphasis on random. πŸŽ₯

Origins of the Idea 🌱

The original idea for this site stemmed from the need to benchmark the popularity of a video against the general population of YouTube videos. 🧠

Challenges Faced πŸ€”

Obtaining a large sample of videos was crucial for accurate ranking, but YouTube lacks a direct method to gather random video IDs.

Even searching for random strings on YouTube doesn't yield truly random results, complicating the process further. πŸ”

Creating Truly Random Links πŸ› οΈ

The YouTube API offers additional functions enabling the discovery of more random videos. Through inventive techniques and a touch of space-time manipulation, we've achieved a process yielding nearly 100% random links to YouTube videos.

About YouTube πŸ“Ί

YouTube, an American video-sharing website based in San Bruno, California, offers a diverse range of user-generated and corporate media content. 🌟

Content and Users 🎡

Users can upload, view, rate, share, and comment on videos, with content spanning video clips, music videos, live streams, and more.
