Kala chana is a variant of chickpeas and is widely used in the Indian cuisine. Kala Chana Curry or Kale Chole Gravy is a very delicious gravy based dish prepared with black chickpeas cooked in a tasty and spicy onion-tomato gravy.Its high protein content makes it very desirable. This can be made either dry or as a curry.Kala Chana Curry can be served with any Indian flat bread like bhature, puri, naan, chapati or with rice.Kale chane curry is very easy and quick to make and tastes great.
ingredients:
oil2 tbsp
black chana 1.5 cups
coriander powder 1 tsp
chilly powder 1/2 tbsp
turmeric ¼ tsp
garam masala ½ tsp
tomatoes 3 (ground to paste)
onions 2 (1 finely chopped & 1 ground to paste)
saltto taste
grated ginger - 1 tbsp
coriander leaves - few
bay leaves - 2
Directions:
1. heat oil in a pan add bay leaves & grated ginger, saute it for a minute.
2. Add chopped onions and onion paste and saute till the onions are slightly brown.
3. Add coriander powder, chili powder, turmeric and salt. Saute for a minute.
4. Add the ground tomato paste and cook till the oil separates.
5. Add black chana (soaked for 6 hours),Garam masala and 3 cups of water. Pressure cook for 8 to 9 whistles. Allow the pressure to release and garnish with coriander leaves.
